NIVERVILLE, NY — December 9 — The Niverville Fire Department Inc., located at PO Box 422 (888 County Route 28), was sent by Columbia County 911 as a member of the Niverville Task Force in response to a reported chimney fire.
When NFD Cars 1 and 2 arrived, they verified that a broken wood stove was the origin of the fire. Interior firefighters from the Kinderhook Fire Department and Niverville Fire started working inside the house. Ladder crews from the Valatie Fire Company, working as unit 55-52, coordinated with interior units to execute roof operations. Before spreading past the chimney, the fire was restricted to the fireplace area and put out. Residents are reminded by fire officials of the significance of routine chimney inspections throughout the heating season.
