COPAKE, NY — December 21 — At Ore Pit Pond in Taconic State Park, members of Copake Fire Company #1, located at 390 County Route 7A, practiced cold water and ice rescue techniques.

Because of the pond's realistic thin and breaking ice, teams were able to practice in scenarios that are frequently encountered during winter crises. In order to lessen the chance of more shattering, rescue personnel practiced safe approaches to victims, concentrating on distributing weight across the ice. Additionally, firefighters received training on how to continue rescue efforts while recovering from ice breakouts. By mooring tether and haul lines from shore, firefighters and drivers assisted with the exercise. During cold water rescue situations, the training placed a strong emphasis on cooperation, communication, and controlled movement.
