HUDSON, NY — December 27 — A report of a loon stuck in the ice on Catskill Creek prompted the City of Hudson Fire Department, located at 77 N. 7th Street, to react. A post on a local community page that attracted public notice was the first to identify the situation.
After examining the data, a Catskill Fire Department chief asked Hudson Fire for help in order to stop members of the public, particularly children, from trying a rescue. Hudson Command sent out rescue swimmers and divers after determining that the operation posed little risk to trained personnel. In around twenty minutes, Lieutenant Adam Finden finished the rescue. For additional care, the loon was given to a wildlife rehabilitation specialist.
