Multi-Agency Effort Brings Water Supply to Stephentown Fire

CANAAN, NY — January 7 — The Canaan Protective Fire Company, located at PO Box 207/2126 State Route 295 in Canaan, was sent by Columbia County 911 to assist the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department at a structure fire on U.S. Route 20 close to the boundary between Columbia and Rensselaer Counties.


Unit 3432 and a crew from Canaan responded. Firefighters from the Nassau Fire Department, Hoags Corners Volunteer Fire Company, Tsatsawassa Fire Company, Hancock Volunteer Fire Department, and Lebanon Valley Protective Association joined mutual-aid groups. Draughting from Kinderhook Creek in East Nassau, Canaan worked in the water shuttle. About 12,000 gallons were hauled by Unit 3432. Stephentown Car 1 was in charge. On-site assistance was provided by the New York State Department of Transportation and Hoags Corners Volunteer Ambulance.
