CANAAN, NY — January 6 — The Canaan Protective Fire Company, located at PO Box 207/2126 State Route 295 in Canaan, was called by Columbia County 911 to a reported structure fire in the Stephentown area. A thorough response under established mutual-aid agreements was prompted by preliminary information indicating a working incident. Responding members were ready for actions that are common in rural areas, such as coordinated command operations, equipment deployment, and water supply planning.
As part of the assignment, more fire departments and support organizations were informed to guarantee sufficient manpower and resources. Highway staff and law enforcement were also notified to help with scene access and traffic control. Standard safety, accountability, and incident management protocols are being followed by the crews. As conditions and operational specifics are verified by command, more updates will be made available.
