CANAAN, NY — January 6 — The Canaan Protective Fire Company was sent by Columbia County 911 to a reported car fire on NY-22 at the I-90 eastbound on-ramp. Red Rock Volunteer Fire Company was asked to provide automatic mutual aid.
Red Rock reacted with Engine 7612 and a crew, while Canaan responded with Engine 3441, Car 1, and unit 3432. The Town of Canaan Highway Department, under the direction of Superintendent McMann, responded to the car and put out the fire before firefighters could arrive, limiting damage to just one axle and the wheel well. Red Rock's retaliation was cancelled by Canaan Command. For stabilization, Canaan units stayed on the scene. The car was taken out by Hillsdale Repairs with help from the New York State Police. The Chatham Rescue Squad Inc. was put back into operation.
