Chatham Township, New Jersey — December 18 — After completing his training at the Hampton Roads Fire Academy, Matthew Schockling formally joined the Chesapeake Fire Department as a firefighter. Since 2019, Schockling has been an active member of the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department.

To support Schockling as he achieved this milestone, a number of volunteers from the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department travelled to Chesapeake, Virginia, to attend the graduation ceremony. Classroom education and practical skills necessary for emergency response and structural firefighting are included in fire academy training. Schockling's graduation highlights the value of training, dedication, and ongoing devotion in the fire service, according to the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department, which is situated at 495 River Road in Chatham, New Jersey.
