The Ambridge Firefighters finished seasonal waxing of all department equipment as part of their yearly preventive maintenance program. Every unit is waxed twice a year, once before winter and once after, to help shield the equipment from corrosion, moisture, and road salt. Fire vehicles, which may cost anywhere from $250,000 for a light rescue unit to over $2.4 million for a ladder truck, are a significant investment, according to department officials. Many of these vehicles stay in frontline duty for 30 years or more due to replacement expenses.
