WASHINGTONVILLE, NY - At 3:13 P.M. on December 31, 2022, the Washingtonville Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Ballard Pond Drive.
Upon arrival fire department units found a vehicle that left the roadway and collided with a three-story garden apartment. The force of the collision caused a partial collapse of the porches on the second and third floors. Washingtonville FD personnel removed the occupants in the line (1st, 2nd and 3rd floors) involved, pending inspection and assessment by the Village of Washingtonville Buildings Department. Building management provided shelter for the occupants in the complex's community center building.
FD personnel also made sure that the vehicle was stable and no additional hazards were present. Upon leaving the road the vehicle struck a pad mounted cable TV box. The operator of the vehicle was evaluated by the Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but refused medical aid at the time. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Washingtonville Police Department.
