Marissa Yutzy received congratulations from the Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company for obtaining Diamond Status in the 4-H program, which is one of the organization's highest honors.
Enhancing rescue skills for farmers stuck in grain bins amid a commodities crash was the main goal of Marissa's Diamond Award project. As part of her project, she contacted the fire company to learn more about grain bin rescue operations and attended a specialized training session in Reedsville. Four members of the department participated in the training, learning proper techniques, safety considerations, and the limitations of the equipment. After the training, Marissa surprised everyone by buying grain bin rescue equipment for Station 19 of Stone Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company and Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company. At the department's December meeting, the equipment was formally introduced.
