Stewartstown, PA - Volunteer firefighters from Eureka Volunteer Fire Department (Station 54), along with personnel from Rose Fire Company No. 1 of New Freedom (Station 58) and Shrewsbury Volunteers (Station 61), gathered for an in-depth chimney fire and flue liner failure seminar Sunday morning in York County.

The inter-agency training evolution took place early on Sunday, October 18, 2026, hosted at the Eureka station in Stewartstown. Guest instructors Lou Marrazzi and Vinnie Marrazzi of J & L Chimney led the educational session, presenting on structural chimney design, modern installation standards, and targeted inspection methodologies tailored to structural firefighting tactics.

During the program, instructors conducted a live-heat thermal demonstration illustrating the rapid mechanical degradation and failure points of ceramic and masonry flue liners subjected to extreme internal fire conditions. First responders analyzed how thermal shock and hidden flue breeches allow heat and embers to transfer into structural framing cavities during residential chimney fires.

Department leadership and participating York County companies underscored the vital importance of annual heating system preventative maintenance, strongly advising homeowners to schedule comprehensive professional chimney and flue inspections before high-demand winter heating operations begin.
