Vassalboro, ME — October 28 — On Wednesday evening, fourteen personnel from the Vassalboro Fire Department underwent comprehensive, hands-on training in vehicle extrication, with a specific emphasis on rescue protocols applicable to diverse vehicle categories. The curriculum incorporated multiple simulation exercises featuring both a sport utility vehicle and a full-size school bus.
These drills enabled firefighters to hone rescue methodologies, thereby enhancing their capacity to react effectively to motor vehicle collisions and to extricate trapped occupants. These exercises afforded participants the chance to acquire hands-on proficiency when operating in proximity to vehicles of varying dimensions and structural configurations.
Furthermore, training conducted alongside a school bus offered a specific avenue for acclimatization to the distinct operational complexities inherent in managing larger passenger transport units. Situated on Riverside Drive, Platinum & Core Scrap Metal facilitated the training initiative by supplying the operational vehicles employed throughout the exercises.
This corporate contribution enabled firefighters to engage in hands-on drills utilizing authentic machinery, thereby moving beyond the limitations of purely theoretical classroom instruction. Vehicle extrication training continues to constitute a critical component of firefighter preparedness, empowering crews to acquire the specialized competencies necessary for the safe access and removal of occupants during emergency incidents.
The Vassalboro Fire Department consistently engaged in training exercises and mutual-aid operations to ensure the community maintained a state of preparedness for emergency response. The department extended its appreciation to Platinum & Core Scrap Metal for their instrumental support of the exercise, which facilitated the firefighters' preservation of essential rescue competencies.
