Otisfield, Maine — October 7, 2026 — Firefighters from the Otisfield Fire Department spent the day with local students at Otisfield Community School during a Fire Prevention Day program, delivering practical lessons on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
The program featured a fire drill, a school bus evacuation exercise, and instruction on the stop, drop and roll technique. Firefighters met students by grade level to talk about fire safety and answer their questions.
Fifth and sixth grade students toured the Spurrs Corner Fire Station. They observed Forestry 12, donned firefighter gear, and competed in hose rolling and unrolling challenges. Students also assisted in loading the hose onto a fire apparatus, preparing for the department's annual hose testing scheduled for the next day.
