Amherst, N.H. — October 28 — In observance of National First Responders Day, the Amherst Fire and EMS department paid tribute to its own members, as well as mutual aid partners and emergency personnel who have dedicated their service to communities across the region.

This observance honored the indispensable contributions of firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and other first responders who diligently attended to service calls and supported residents during crises.

National First Responders Day is commemorated each year on October 28. The U.S. Senate endorsed this designation in both 2017 and 2019, thereby honoring the indispensable contributions of both career and volunteer emergency personnel throughout the nation.

Amherst Fire and EMS functioned as an integrated emergency services entity, delivering comprehensive fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention, and community safety initiatives. The department's operational capacity was sustained by a hybrid workforce comprising career leadership, on-call firefighters, and per-diem EMS personnel, all of whom were essential to maintaining consistent emergency coverage.

Furthermore, the department leveraged collaborative mutual aid partnerships with adjacent agencies, a framework that enabled emergency services to deploy reciprocal support whenever supplementary resources became essential. This observance underscored the substantial time dedication and personal sacrifice demanded of emergency responders, encompassing prolonged periods of separation from their families, the necessity of continuous training, and responsibilities that frequently remain largely unacknowledged by the public.

Amherst Fire and EMS extended its gratitude to its members, mutual aid partners, and first responders across the nation for their unwavering commitment and steadfast dedication to the cause of public safety.
