Old Lyme, CT — October 17 — Personnel from the Old Lyme Fire Department engaged in their annual live-fire training exercise at the Old Saybrook Fire Department burn building, affording them the chance to refine essential fireground competencies within a controlled live-fire environment.

The exercise was executed with the support of Flash Fire Industries, which supplied both instructional guidance and operational assistance. Participating firefighters engaged in practical training sessions aimed at deepening their comprehension of fire dynamics and enhancing their efficacy during structural firefighting maneuvers.

Live-fire exercises provided firefighters with a critical opportunity to witness the dynamic evolution of heat, smoke, and fire conditions throughout an incident. This rigorous training further enabled personnel to refine their interior attack protocols, evaluate ventilation strategies, master the application of thermal imaging cameras, and reinforce the indispensable nature of teamwork during complex fireground operations.

Flash Fire Industries provided specialized curricula encompassing live-fire evolutions, demonstrations of fire behavior, instruction on thermal imaging camera utilization, and ventilation protocols. Furthermore, the firm noted that its training services extended to fire departments within Connecticut, specifically citing those located in Old Lyme and Old Saybrook.

The yearly training regimen afforded Old Lyme firefighters invaluable hands-on experience while allowing them to hone their competencies within a controlled setting. The Old Lyme Fire Department extended its gratitude to the Old Saybrook Fire Department and Flash Fire Industries for their facilitation and support during the annual live burn exercise.
