Holderness, NH — October 21 — Personnel from the Holderness Fire Department engaged in an intensive practical training session dedicated to ladder operations, the mitigation of chimney fires, and the deployment of thermal imaging cameras.

The evening commenced with ladder drills, wherein firefighters meticulously rehearsed optimal placement, secure erection, and ascent methodologies. These exercises afforded personnel the opportunity to reinforce safety protocols while enhancing their proficiency in deploying equipment during critical emergency operations.

As the onset of the colder season prompted an increase in the use of wood stoves and fireplaces among residents, crews transitioned their focus to chimney fire training. Firefighters examined suppression techniques for chimney fires and conducted drills to manage incidents involving residential chimney systems.

Additionally, personnel deployed thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint concealed heat signatures within walls and ceilings.

This technology enabled firefighters to detect residual thermal energy in areas where visible flames had already been extinguished, thereby facilitating thorough overhaul operations and significantly mitigating the risk of rekindling.

The training initiatives underscored the department's commitment to sustaining operational readiness via routine, hands-on drills. As an on-call entity, the Holderness Fire Department deployed its trained personnel and diverse array of emergency response assets to serve the community.

As the heating season draws near, residents were urged to schedule chimney inspections and thorough cleanings, ensure that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors remain fully operational, and adhere strictly to safety protocols when utilizing wood stoves.
