Mystic, CT — October 5 — Personnel from the Old Mystic Fire Department (Official) and the Mystic Fire Department executed a collaborative training exercise centered on confined space and rope rescue protocols, with a specific emphasis on operational equipment deployment, hazard identification, and methodologies for victim retrieval.

Throughout the session, firefighters conducted a comprehensive review of the protocols necessary for identifying confined spaces and assessing the inherent hazards associated with such environments.

In parallel, personnel engaged in hands-on training with a suite of critical operational tools, including atmospheric monitoring devices, ventilation systems, supplied-air respirators, air carts, and victim retrieval mechanisms.

The crew was tasked with a series of practical rescue scenarios designed to test their proficiency in deploying the equipment and techniques reviewed throughout the training session.

Among these exercises, one required the utilization of a skate block system to facilitate the transport of victims and rescue gear to and from an elevated platform.

The training enabled participants to evaluate equipment functionality, comprehend rescue protocols, and rehearse the coordination essential for technical rescue operations.

Incidents involving confined spaces frequently entail restricted access, compromised air quality, and additional hazards, all of which necessitate meticulous planning and the rigorous deployment of appropriate protective gear.

Headquartered at 295 Cow Hill Road in Mystic, the Old Mystic Fire Department functioned as a combined agency delivering fire suppression, emergency medical services, and technical rescue capabilities.

Through its sustained training initiatives, the department consistently upheld a state of preparedness essential for responding to specialized emergency incidents.

This joint training initiative afforded firefighters a vital platform to refine their technical rescue competencies and enhance interagency coordination when confronting complex incidents.
