Willimantic, CT — October 21 — On October 21, members of the Atwood Hose Fire Company converged upon the Eastern Connecticut Fire School in Willimantic to participate in a comprehensive, town wide live fire training exercise. This collaborative drill brought together personnel from the Moosup Fire Department, Central Village Fire Company Station 97, and Plainfield Fire Company No.1, uniting these diverse agencies for a rigorous session dedicated to advanced fire suppression tactics.
Spanning over two hours, the annual training session featured multiple live-fire evolutions, during which crews honed their mastery of fireground tactics, interior suppression methods, and operational coordination under simulated emergency scenarios.
Firefighters engaged in coordinated drills designed to simulate high-heat conditions, enabling personnel to refine their technical proficiencies, enhance inter-unit communication, and navigate complex fireground operations within an environment mirroring the exigencies of a genuine structural fire.
The Eastern Connecticut Fire School offered an ideal venue for these exercises, featuring a training campus equipped with a Class A burn building specifically configured for live-fire drills. This facility enabled practitioners to hone fire attack techniques across diverse scenarios, including operations at ground level, below grade, and above grade. Additionally, the campus boasted a training tower and a range of other specialized props to support comprehensive instruction.
Live-fire training continued to serve as a cornerstone of firefighter preparedness. Through iterative practice, crews were able to sustain their technical proficiencies, enhance operational synergy, and fortify their capacity to meet the exigencies of emergency response.
Furthermore, the municipal-wide session afforded participating departments the chance to collaborate on training initiatives, thereby fortifying their professional synergies. Demonstrating an unwavering dedication to both operational preparedness and public security, the Atwood Hose Fire Company, stationed at 24 Wauregan Road in Wauregan, executed its annual exercise to uphold the rigor of regular training.
