Sterling, CT — October 25 — Around 1:57 a.m, the Atwood Hose Fire Company deployed in response to a mutual aid summons to furnish a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) at a reported structural conflagration situated on Porter Pond Road within the Oneco district of Sterling, Connecticut.

The mandate necessitated the deployment of supplementary personnel to bolster firefighter safety protocols during interior fireground operations. Upon their arrival, members of Atwood Hose integrated with Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) personnel stationed at Central Village Fire Company Station 97 and those from the Western Coventry Fire Department, thereby establishing a unified and coordinated response unit.

Rapid Intervention Teams were designated to maintain immediate readiness, ensuring they could provide critical assistance to firefighters who became trapped, lost, or injured during structural operations. The efficacy of their mission relied fundamentally on a comprehensive mastery of firefighter rescue protocols, specialized equipment deployment, and established communication procedures.

Local reports indicate that the fire at Porter Pond Road originated in a chimney and subsequently breached the exterior of the residence. The response effort involved multiple departments, which were bolstered by mutual aid resources to ensure effective suppression and the safety of the firefighting personnel. Members of the Atwood Hose Fire Company maintained their presence at the scene until they were formally released from the assignment at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The response underscored the critical function of mutual aid and the synchronized deployment of Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT) in the context of structural fire incidents. Situated at 24 Wauregan Road in Wauregan, the Atwood Hose Fire Company maintained its commitment to supporting adjacent departments by facilitating regional emergency response efforts. The event further underscored the critical necessity of keeping trained personnel on standby to support crews operating within hazardous environments.
