Plainfield, CT — October 6 — On October 6, members of the Atwood Hose Fire Company paid a visit to Shepard Hill Elementary School in Plainfield to observe the institution's annual Fire Prevention Day, thereby upholding a tradition that has persisted since the school's inception.
The event facilitated direct engagement between firefighters and students, providing a platform to disseminate critical fire safety information. During the interaction, fire department members elaborated on prevention strategies and safety protocols, thereby empowering the children to identify potential hazards and formulate appropriate responses to fire emergencies.
Furthermore, students were afforded the chance to examine the department's specialized apparatus and instrumentation.
Through these practical exercises, they gained a deeper comprehension of the tools employed by firefighters during emergency operations and the critical nature of their efforts in safeguarding the community.
As Shepard Hill Elementary accommodated students ranging from preschool through the third grade, tailoring fire safety education to their developmental levels proved to be a critical component of the visit.
The annual gathering further served as a catalyst for firefighters to cultivate meaningful connections with students in non-emergency contexts. Among the day's most eagerly awaited segments was the shared lunch, a deliberate occasion that afforded both department personnel and the young attendees ample opportunity to engage in dialogue and foster mutual acquaintance.
Fire Prevention Day continued to serve as a cherished tradition for both the school and the Atwood Hose Fire Company, reinforcing the department's community outreach initiatives by delivering fire safety education directly within the classroom environment and fostering greater familiarity among students with their local firefighting personnel. Atwood Hose Fire Company was based at 24 Wauregan Road in Wauregan, Connecticut.
