Greenburgh, N.Y. — October 22, 2026 — Hartsdale and Greenville fire districts increased staffing and placed reserve apparatus in service Thursday evening after a major water main break caused a loss of water service across parts of the Town of Greenburgh.

The outage created concerns about water availability for firefighting. Both districts added apparatus with onboard water tanks and extra hose to support operations if a fire occurred while the water system was disrupted.

The districts also requested tanker apparatus from neighboring departments. These tankers, equipped with booster tanks holding approximately 2,500 to 3,000 gallons, provided additional water for initial firefighting operations.

Hartsdale Fire Department hosted Croton Tanker 10 from approximately 10 p.m. Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday, October 23. Yorktown Engine 270, a pumper-tanker, later replaced the unit. Greenville Fire Department hosted Pocantico Hills Tanker 12, which was later replaced by Millwood Tanker 15.

The additional apparatus and water supply resources were positioned to help maintain fire response capability during the outage. The departments thanked Croton, Yorktown, Pocantico Hills, and Millwood, along with their members, for providing assistance.
