Golden’s Bridge, N.Y. — October 17, 2026 — More than 700 guests attended the Golden’s Bridge Fire Department’s 10th annual Community Day at the Firehouse on October 17, surpassing the previous year’s turnout of 560.

The free event brought residents together for fire safety education, demonstrations, family activities, and food. Fire Commissioner Edward Brancati, chairman of the Golden’s Bridge Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners, said the event was a way to thank the community for its continued support of the volunteer department. Fire Chief Albert Melillo said it also gave residents a chance to learn about fire prevention and see some of the department’s work.

Children picked pumpkins from the firehouse pumpkin patch, decorated them, and used a working hose to knock down simulated flames on a house façade. Other activities included a 40-foot inflatable obstacle course, craft tables, a cornhole game, and a rescue simulation hosted by Scout Troop 301. Adults received instruction on fire extinguisher use before putting out controlled flames.

Firefighters also demonstrated hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the Jaws of Life, during a simulated vehicle extrication. Crews cut and spread vehicle doors and removed part of the roof before conducting a live-burn demonstration. Wind conditions led firefighters to end the burn earlier than planned, and some demonstrations were postponed.

The Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided ambulance tours, while “Goldie the Fire Dog,” the department’s costumed mascot, joined children in a parade around the fire trucks. The event concluded with fire truck rides.

Guests were also served homemade firehouse chili and butternut squash soup, bratwurst, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and a variety of snacks and refreshments. The department thanked residents, volunteers, and participating community members for helping make the event a success.
