Grand Island Firefighters Host Sidway Students for Fire Prevention Week

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Students from Sidway visited the Grand Island Fire Company’s Fire Headquarters on Saturday, October 10, to take part in a hands-on Fire Prevention Week educational program.

Students moved between several learning stations while firefighters presented fire service tools, protective gear, and emergency medical service equipment. Pupils could additionally don firefighting equipment, practice stop, drop and roll, and encounter the department’s smoke simulation trailer.

The program let students learn about fire safety hands-on, so they could get used to the equipment and staff they might see in an emergency.

Children learn how to handle hazards and feel confident around emergency responders through fire prevention visits that stress preparedness.
