Port Washington, N.Y. — October 9 — During National Fire Prevention Week, members of the Port Washington Fire Department undertook a series of visits to elementary schools across the Port Washington School District, where they disseminated essential fire safety information to the student body.

Firefighters and emergency medical services representatives engaged with students to educate them on identifying fire hazards and executing safe responses during an incident.

These sessions emphasized critical safety protocols, such as adhering to established evacuation routes, promptly exiting the building upon hearing a fire alarm, and either seeking assistance from an adult or dialing 911 when necessary.

As a component of the department's broader community education initiatives, the school outreach program leveraged Fire Prevention Week to facilitate collaboration between fire services, educational institutions, and families.

This observance offers fire departments a strategic platform to disseminate critical safety information and foster the adoption of secure behavioral practices within these key stakeholder groups.

The department expressed its gratitude to the school district for the warm reception afforded to its members and acknowledged the selfless contributions of the volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel who dedicated their time to these visits. The Port Washington Fire Department, established in 1907, serves the community from its headquarters at 423 Port Washington Boulevard.
