Fire Operations promoted 50 members during a Tuesday, October 27 ceremony at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island, New York City.
The ceremony honored two Battalion Chiefs moving up to Deputy Chief and 48 Firefighters advancing to Lieutenant. The recently promoted officers will be placed in units across New York City, where they will assume extra leadership duties.
FDNY Chief of Department Department John Esposito spoke to the ceremony attendees about the significance of their new responsibilities and the department's enduring leadership heritage. Promotion ceremonies are extremely important for our Department, and it’s a big change for each of you,” Esposito said. “ You become part of a lengthy FDNY legacy, and you uphold the robust custom that defines this Department for over 165 years.
Promoted officers now assume greater responsibility supervising staff, managing emergency operations, and assisting the department with daily fire and emergency responses.
The ceremony also honored the commitment, preparation, and background necessary to progress within one of the country's biggest municipal fire services. The FDNY and its members congratulated the newly promoted officers as they begin their next assignments.
