Hartford, N.Y. — October 13 — Members of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Co.welcomed firefighters from the Penrhyn Engine & Hose, known as the Middle Granville Fire Department, for a combined training session that focused on essential fireground activities.
The two departments collaborated during various drills that covered initial engine company actions, search and rescue procedures, victim extraction, ladder setup, and incident command procedures. These exercises gave firefighters from both departments the chance to practice their responsibilities in simulated emergency scenarios.
The engine company drills concentrated on the necessary steps to initiate a fire attack, such as deploying hoses and delivering water. Search and rescue exercises allowed members to practice identifying and removing victims from buildings. Ladder drills reviewed techniques for accessing and placing ladders, while command exercises emphasized organizing personnel and assigning tasks effectively.
The training covered important topics included in New York State fire service programs, such as engine company operations, ladder operations, rescue techniques, and incident command.
Several high-intensity drills were conducted, offering participants hands-on experience and the chance to assess their performance. These joint exercises also helped neighboring departments get to know each other's procedures, which is vital for effective mutual aid responses.
The Hartford Volunteer Fire Co., based at 8118 State Route 40, expressed gratitude to the Middle Granville firefighters for traveling to participate in the training. The session contributed to ongoing education, teamwork, and preparedness for emergency response across the region.
