Frewsburg, N.Y. — October 8 — Members of the Frewsburg Fire Company went to a local elementary school on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to give fire prevention lessons as part of their yearly community education program.
This visit allowed firefighters to interact directly with students and talk about what to do in an emergency. The lesson covered basic fire safety topics, such as identifying hazards, knowing safe actions, and understanding how to seek help when needed.
Students also had the chance to learn about the protective gear firefighters use and took part in an activity where teachers competed against firefighters in a gear-donning drill. This demonstration showed how quickly firefighters must put on their equipment before responding to an emergency.
Visiting schools continues to be a key part of the fire prevention efforts, helping children learn important safety practices they can share with their families. During Fire Prevention Week, which took place from October 4 to October 10 in 2026, the National Fire Protection Association provided educational materials for schools and families. This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focused on reducing fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.
The Frewsburg Fire Company also mentioned its upcoming Halloween event at the fire station, where the community is invited to attend in costume. These outreach efforts support the department’s mission of promoting education, prevention, and emergency response within the community.
