Firefighters showed students the tools and gear used on fire trucks and explained how these items are used during emergency situations. The session also covered everyday safety practices and the importance of knowing how to act when an emergency occurs.

The Ira Volunteer Fire Department also joined the program, supporting the community outreach initiative and reinforcing fire safety lessons for the students. Working together, local departments were able to connect with young residents and raise awareness about the fire service.

Students were encouraged to learn their home addresses and understand how to respond in case of an emergency.

Families were also advised to continue these discussions at home so children could identify hazards and know when to ask for help.

The National Fire Protection Association suggests that families create and practice a home fire escape plan, find two escape routes from each room if possible, and choose a safe place outside to meet.

The school visit demonstrated the importance of fire prevention education in helping children form safe habits before an emergency happens. The Cato Fire Department, located at 2569 East Main St., continues its community safety efforts through school programs and collaboration with nearby fire companies.
