Cayuga, N.Y. — October 26 — Members of the Cayuga Fire Department carried out annual pump testing on Engine 1 (E-1) and Tanker/Pumper 1 (TP-1) during a planned department exercise at Mud Lock on Monday, October 26, 2026.
The testing was led by Kevin Foster, with nine other department members helping with the process. Both vehicles successfully completed the necessary checks and were cleared for continued use, as reported by the department.
Annual pump testing ensures that fire truck pumps can provide water at the required flow rates and pressures. These tests are a key part of maintaining fire equipment and help detect any potential issues before they could affect performance during an emergency. Following guidelines from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), annual service testing of fire apparatus pumps is considered a standard part of routine maintenance.
Engine and tanker/pumper units are vital in fire suppression efforts, providing support for hose lines and water supply operations. Maintaining their pumps in good working condition helps firefighters prepare for structure fires and other incidents where a reliable water supply is essential.
The drill also allowed department members to conduct equipment checks and contribute to maintaining operational readiness.
The successful completion of the testing confirmed that both units are ready for another year of service, enabling the Cayuga Fire Department to continue its emergency response operations with the equipment approved for use in the upcoming year.
