Aurora, N.Y. — October 10 — The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department participated in Fire Prevention Day at SCCS by bringing its quint apparatus to the school as part of a community fire safety initiative. AVFD firefighters demonstrated the quint during the event, allowing students to gain a better understanding of the equipment used by firefighters and the role of fire apparatus in emergency response. These school-based fire prevention activities helped introduce students to the fire service and emphasized the importance of making safe choices at home and within the community.

The department is based at 456 Main St. in Aurora and provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the surrounding area. Its involvement in school events supports its broader mission of public education and community safety.

Fire Prevention Week took place from October 4 to October 10, 2026. The National Fire Protection Association’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” highlighted the importance of safe charging practices for devices with lithium-ion batteries. Key safety tips included using approved chargers, charging devices on hard surfaces, and discontinuing use of batteries that showed signs of damage or overheating.

The SCCS event offered the department another chance to engage with students and raise awareness about fire safety through direct community involvement.
