For the first two full weeks in October, the Limerick Fire Department visited several schools and daycare centers in the township to discuss fire prevention and allow children to explore the fire trucks up close. Firefighters showed students their gear, discussed how to stay safe during a fire, what to do when calling 911, and explained the importance of smoke alarms and home escape plans. The kids especially enjoyed seeing the fire trucks and asking questions about the trucks and the equipment. Sparky also made an appearance at a couple of the schools.
We visited the following schools and day care centers: Evans Elementary, Limerick Elementary, Brooke Elementary, St. Teresa of Calcutta, The Learning Experience, International Montessori School, His Kids at St. James, Primrose School, Valley Forge Kinder House, Child Time, Kiddie Academy, Bright Beginnings, Malvern School, Chesterbrook Academy, and the Goddard School.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” The department used the opportunity to teach kids and teachers how to use and charge these batteries safely, reminding everyone to use proper chargers, avoid overcharging, and dispose of old batteries correctly.
Through these fun and educational visits, the Limerick Fire Department continues to build community connections and teach lifesaving lessons — starting with the youngest residents! While we enjoy visiting schools to teach fire prevention, remember that every day is fire prevention day!
