North Conway Crews Practiced Pumping and Aerial Operations

North Conway, NH — September 14 — Members of the North Conway Firefighters Association held a training session on Monday night, focusing on several key areas including water supply, pumping, aerial tower operations, and handline deployment.

During the session, firefighters practiced a reverse lay procedure, where they connected an engine to a hydrant to ensure a steady water supply for the apparatus. They also activated the aerial tower and released water from both nozzles on the bucket. A handline was retrieved from the tower and used as part of the exercise.

Firefighters rotated through multiple training stations and tackled simulated emergency situations. These scenarios included losing pump pressure, dealing with low water pressure, operating from tank water supplies, and managing pressure adjustments while using multiple nozzles simultaneously.

The training emphasized fundamental fireground skills that must be regularly practiced to maintain proficiency. Pump operations, water supply management, and hose deployment are essential components of structural fire response and require effective coordination between pump operators and those on the fireground.

Following the hands-on training, firefighters repacked the hoses, returned equipment to storage, refilled the water tanks on the apparatus, and cleaned and replaced any used hose lines. The session allowed members to practice standard procedures while also addressing equipment and water supply challenges in a controlled environment.
