Christiana Fire Company

Christiana Fire Company (New Castle County, Delaware). Christiana Fire Company is located in New Castle County, Delaware, and covers 36 square miles of first due residential and commercial property, as well as mutual aid with most of the county. We are a combination company with full-time and part-time employees who work hand in hand with our volunteers to serve the area. Christiana responds to over 17,000 fire, EMS, and rescue incidents. On October 7, 1921, at a schoolhouse in Christiana, Delaware, the Christiana Fire Company was organized by a body of 20 men who saw the need for fire protection in the village of Christiana and the surrounding community. The Fire Company was officially chartered and incorporated on January 4, 1922. On March 31, 1922, the new company had less than $50.00 in its treasury, on which day it purchased a Waterous Type “C” Triple Combination Pumper Truck, and 1000 feet of hose at $4,000.00. This pumper was mounted on a Model “T” Ford chassis. The members responded to 23 alarms in 1924, of which four were in the village of Christiana itself. The Christiana Fire Company covers 36 square miles in our first due fire district, which consists of 1/7th of the state's entire population. Our fire district encompasses major roadways such as Interstate 95, DE State Rt 1, & Rt 40, as well as the state's largest hospital and shopping mall. The company's units also run automatic mutual aid with 8 bordering districts. The department operates out of 3 fire stations. Headquarters,  Station 12, is located at 2 East Main Street. It was built in 2021 and has a ton of state-of-the-art equipment. It has 9 bays in the front and 3 bays in the rear. Station 6, which is located at 1714 Porter Road and was built in 1972. Station 3, which is located at 600 Salem Church Road and was built in 1994. The company also has a maintenance shop, located at 17 Main Street was built as a temporary station while the new station 12 was built. It now houses their maintenance Shop, and it is across the street from Station 12.
