Somersworth Professional Firefighters Observed 25th 9/11 Anniversary

Somersworth, NH — September 11 — Somersworth Professional Firefighters Local 2320 honored the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks by remembering the 2,977 individuals who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

According to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, 343 firefighters from the New York Fire Department (FDNY), 37 officers from the Port Authority Police Department, and 23 officers from the New York Police Department were among the 441 first responders who died on that day.

The anniversary also paid tribute to the thousands of emergency personnel, rescue workers, and volunteers who participated in the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center.

The long-term impact of their work continued well beyond the immediate aftermath.The FDNY's 2026 health report revealed that over 10,000 FDNY members had been diagnosed with at least one health condition linked to their service on September 11.

In September 2026, the FDNY added 36 names to its World Trade Center Memorial Wall, honoring members who passed away due to illnesses related to their rescue and recovery efforts.

At Somersworth Professional Firefighters Local 2320, located at 195 Maple St., the event gave the emergency services community a chance to remember those who were lost and acknowledge the ongoing effects of September 11 on first responders and their families.

The 25th anniversary was a day of reflection for the victims, first responders, and recovery workers whose lives were changed by the attacks.
