Lovell Firefighters Marked 25 Years Since September 11

Center Lovell, ME — September 11 — The Lovell Volunteer Fire Company marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks by honoring the 2,977 individuals who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,753 people in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 on Flight 93.

Emergency services personnel also faced significant losses, including 343 New York City firefighters, as well as police officers, emergency medical staff, and other first responders.

The anniversary also paid tribute to the families and communities impacted by the attacks, as well as the thousands of responders, recovery workers, and volunteers who were involved in the aftermath.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum noted that many of these individuals later passed away from illnesses caused by their exposure during the rescue and recovery operations.

At the Lovell Volunteer Fire Company, located at P.O.

Box 37, Center Lovell, the event offered a chance to remember those who were lost and to highlight the ongoing significance of service within the fire and emergency services community.

The commemoration in New York featured family members reading the names of the victims.

Seven moments of silence were observed, including one dedicated to those who later died as a result of injuries or illnesses linked to the attacks.

The Lovell department's observance focused on remembrance, the families affected by the tragedy, and the service of those who responded to the attacks 25 years ago.
