Andover Crews Strengthened Vehicle Rescue Skills

Andover, ME — September 19 — The Andover Maine Volunteer Fire Department carried out its yearly vehicle extrication training, offering firefighters a chance to practice the skills and methods used when dealing with motor vehicle accidents.

The training involved using vehicles donated by Adley’s, enabling firefighters to use their rescue equipment in a controlled environment.

This practice helped the team become more comfortable with the tools and the procedures needed to safely extract people from damaged cars.

Vehicle extrication is a key element of firefighter training in Maine.

The Maine Fire Service Institute includes vehicle rescue in its Firefighter I and II courses, with lessons aimed at preparing firefighters for rescue missions and supporting specialized teams.

The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office has also highlighted that consistent extrication training allows fire departments to be ready for situations where they need to rescue people from vehicles following crashes.

It also helps crews check that their rescue tools are functioning correctly and that they understand how to use them.

The training session on September 19 gave Andover firefighters hands-on experience with their equipment while strengthening communication, teamwork, and scene safety.

Practicing with real vehicles offered crews valuable preparation before responding to a real crash involving trapped or injured individuals.
