Kent Volunteer Fire Department Reports 494 Year-to-Date Calls

In a September 1 update, the Kent Volunteer Fire Department reported 19 fire calls and 44 EMS calls for the most recent reporting period, bringing its year-to-date totals to 192 fire calls and 302 ambulance calls. 

The figures illustrate the wide variety of services managed by the volunteer department, with fire and emergency medical responses comprising a major part of its duties. 

The department also used the update to prompt community members to think about volunteering. The Kent Volunteer Fire Department stated that new members can get training in areas they ’re interested in and join the department’s emergency-response team.

The Town of Kent's annual report provides additional context on the department's workload. Its 2023-24 report recorded 519 EMS/ambulance calls and 331 fire calls in 2024, a 10% increase in EMS calls and a 27% increase in fire calls compared with 2023. The town also noted that many structure-fire responses involve mutual aid to neighboring departments.
