Milford Fire Department Marked 25 Years Since 9/11

Milford, NH — September 11 — Milford Fire Department commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks by remembering the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services workers, and civilians who lost their lives. The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Among the victims were 343 firefighters from the Fire Department of the City of New York who responded to the World Trade Center. The 9/11 Memorial & Museum continues to honor their names and the stories of those who were lost.

The anniversary also highlighted the ongoing effects of the attacks on emergency responders and recovery workers.

Many thousands of individuals who were involved in rescue, recovery, and cleanup efforts later developed illnesses connected to their work at the affected sites. For the 25th anniversary, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum introduced a seventh moment of silence during its annual ceremony to honor those who died from health issues related to 9/11.

The 2026 anniversary also focused on educating younger generations about the events and their long-term impact.

The Memorial reported that more than 100 million Americans were too young to remember September 11 firsthand.

Milford Fire Department, located at 39 School Street, joined fire and emergency service organizations nationwide in observing the anniversary and remembering those who never came home.
