Gales Ferry and Ledyard Crews Conducted Woodland Search Drill

Gales Ferry, CT — September 17 — Members of the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company and Ledyard Fire Company carried out a woodland search and rescue training exercise designed to help locate and provide care to patients in forested areas.

The training involved working together with the Ledyard Emergency Communications Center.

During the exercise, fake victims were given specific locations, injuries, and details about their environment.This information was then shared with the field responders, who used both technological tools and traditional search techniques to find the victims.

New EMS personnel had the chance to practice assessing patients, giving treatment, and keeping them stable.

At the same time, other firefighters and EMS staff focused on developing safe methods to move patients out of the wooded areas.

This training was meant to prepare crews for the kinds of situations they might face during emergencies in remote or undeveloped areas.

Ledyard has many wooded regions and trails, so being ready for search and rescue operations is a crucial part of the town’s emergency response plan.

The Ledyard Emergency Communications Center acts as the public safety answering point for Ledyard and Preston, and it also provides dispatch support to the Gales Ferry Fire Company and other local emergency services.
