25 Years Later, Fire and Emergency Services Remember September 11

On Friday, communities nationwide honored the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by remembering firefighters, police officers, EMS workers, military personnel, and civilians.
The remembrance held by the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department honored those lost and the emergency responders who rushed to the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the crash site of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
At the World Trade Center in New York City, the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) was the primary fire-service agency responding to the attacks. FDNY lost 343 members on September 11, 2001. The department has continued to honor those members while also remembering the firefighters, EMS personnel and other responders who have died from illnesses connected to their work at the World Trade Center.
