Jake Pelletier Begins New Chapter in EMS Career

Westford, Mass. — September 10 — As students throughout the region resumed classes, Westford firefighter Jake Pelletier launched a new phase in his emergency services career by enrolling in paramedic training at Mount Wachusett Community College. 

This month, Pelletier, an EMT and firefighter with the Westford Fire Department, started the college’s Paramedic Technology program. Pelletier is listed on the Town of Westford’s current fire department roster as a probationary firefighter/EMT, with a start date scheduled for June 2025. 

The training program is structured to advance EMTs to the paramedic level by integrating classroom instruction, practical hands-on training, and clinical experience. Mount Wachusett Community College presents its Paramedic Technology program as a fast-paced , four-semester course designed to prepare graduates for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic Certification Exam.

The coursework covers subjects including anatomy and physiology, paramedicine, pharmacology, cardiology, medical emergencies, and trauma. As part of the program, students also undertake a paramedic clinical internship and a field internship. 

The initial department announcement stated that Pelletier will complete about 1,400 hours of classroom and field training within a 14-month period. However, since the current MWCC program information lists the Paramedic Technology certificate as a four-semester program, the specific duration and credit hours for Pelletier’s individual course should be assigned to the department rather than treated as a universal MWCC requirement.
