Willington Firefighters Mark 25th Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

Members of the emergency-services community in Willington joined people across the country Friday in remembering the victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, 25 years after the attacks on the United States.

The remembrance was shared by the Willington Fire Department, which recognized those who lost their lives while serving others during the attacks and their aftermath.

September 11, 2026, marked the 25th anniversary of the attacks, which killed 2,977 people in New York, at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum's anniversary observance included the reading of the names of the 2,983 people killed in both the 2001 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. A new seventh moment of silence was also added to honor people who later died from 9/11-related illnesses and injuries.
