Brentwood Firefighters Marked 25 Years Since 9/11

Brentwood, NH — September 11 — The Brentwood Fire & Rescue Department held a September 11 remembrance ceremony at the Brentwood Fire Station, commemorating 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.Town offices briefly closed so employees could attend the ceremony at the fire station.

The anniversary honored the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives in New York, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The event also paid tribute to the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and other first responders who worked at the attack sites.

For the fire service, September 11 remains a significant part of the department’s history.

The attacks led to the deaths of 343 firefighters from the Fire Department of New York, along with other emergency personnel who responded to the World Trade Center.In the years that followed, many responders faced ongoing health issues due to their exposure to the conditions at the site.

Brentwood Fire & Rescue has served the community since the formation of the Brentwood Firemen’s Association in 1942.

The department later merged fire and ambulance services, becoming a combination department with full-time, per-diem, and call members.It operated two ambulances, two engine trucks, a tanker, and a forestry unit while handling more than 1,000 calls each year.

The September 11 ceremony offered the department and the community another chance to remember those who were lost and the emergency workers who responded.
