Barnstable Fire Department Honored Karen Hickey’s Service Anniversary

Barnstable, MA — August 24 — The Barnstable Fire Department honored Karen Hickey for completing 12 years of service with the department. Hickey worked as the Confidential Executive Assistant to the Fire Chief and offered administrative support for the department’s routine operations.

Although firefighters and officers were usually the most noticeable members of the fire department, administrative staff also played a key role in ensuring emergency services were well-organized and functioned smoothly.

Hickey’s role was vital in assisting the Fire Chief and managing the behind-the-scenes administrative tasks necessary for the department’s fire and emergency response efforts.

The Barnstable Fire Department operated within a broader municipal public safety system that served the Town of Barnstable.

Town records showed that fire services were present in multiple Barnstable communities, including Barnstable, Hyannis, Centerville, Cotuit, and West Barnstable.

The department’s main office was located at 3249 Main Street, where both administrative and operational activities supported emergency services across the community.

The Barnstable Fire District has also continued to invest in fire service facilities and infrastructure, including plans for a new station on Phinney’s Lane.

Hickey’s 12 years of service marked a significant part of the department’s administrative history.

The anniversary celebrated her ongoing support for the Fire Chief, department personnel, and the everyday responsibilities of the fire service.
