Hinsdale, NJ - Emergency responders spent Saturday morning immersed in hands-on clinical scenarios, refining critical life-support protocols and advanced equipment deployment for complex cardiac arrest incidents.

On Saturday, August 22, the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department hosted a specialized medical training evolution focused on managing cardiac arrest under difficult, confined, and high-stress operational circumstances. The department welcomed guest instructor Diane Thompson from the North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NAVAC), who shared extensive field experience and clinical insight with attending firefighters and emergency medical responders.

The practical session centered on the psychological and tactical demands placed on first responders during critical resuscitation efforts, emphasizing team coordination, focus, and sustained high-performance CPR.

Personnel conducted hands-on walkthroughs and skill repetitions utilizing vital emergency airway and circulatory equipment. Training covered basic and advanced airway management—including oral and nasal pharyngeal airways, active suction units, supplemental oxygen delivery, and bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation—alongside automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and mechanical chest compression systems (LUCAS devices).

The collaborative drill reinforced interagency operational synergy between fire-based first responders and dedicated emergency medical services, ensuring personnel remain prepared to deliver rapid, seamless, and high-quality pre-hospital care during sudden medical emergencies.
