Deputy Chief Mike Lizza Retires After 25 Years With Montclair Fire

Mike Lizza, the deputy chief of the Montclair Fire Department, is retiring after 25 years of service.

In June 2001, Lizza was hired by the Montclair Fire Department. In December 2011, he received a promotion to lieutenant; in November 2021, he became captain; and in November 2024, he became deputy chief.

Lizza worked as a fireman on Truck 1 and was assigned to Engine 3 and Engine 1 as a lieutenant. Before taking on the role of Deputy Chief of Operations, he was the captain of Engine 1. FMBA Local 20 acknowledged Lizza's retirement and commended him for his dedication to the work as well as his kindness and sense of humor. According to the union, over his 25 years of work, he developed into a significant member of the department.

At the moment, the Montclair Fire Department has three locations: stations on Valley Road and Harrison Avenue, as well as the Fire Headquarters at 1 Pine Street.

FMBA Local 20 commended Lizza for his years of service to Montclair and the fire department and congratulated him on his retirement.
