August 29, 2026 — The Belvedere Volunteer Fire Company Station 30 recently donated equipment and supplies from Lawnside's department wish list, for which the Lawnside Fire Company Station 272 is grateful.
The contribution is a reflection of the more than three decades-long partnership between the two volunteer fire departments. According to Lawnside Fire, the collaboration is based on friendship, respect for one another, and a common dedication to helping their communities.
African American volunteer firefighting has a long history with both businesses. While Belvedere Volunteer Fire Company was founded in 1949 and became Delaware's first volunteer fire company with a majority Black membership, Lawnside Fire Company was founded in 1912. With its headquarters located at 1000 Liberty Road in Wilmington, Belvedere Fire Company, Station 30, is still an operating volunteer organization in New Castle County.
According to Lawnside Fire Company, the donated goods will maintain the long-standing relationship between the two organizations while assisting its members in providing better services to locals and guests.
Additionally, the department thanked the members of the Lawnside and Belvedere fire companies for their ongoing friendship and camaraderie.
