Hawthorne Fire Department Honored Community Workers on Labor Day

HAWTHORNE, NJ — September 7 — The Hawthorne Fire Department honored the workers who helped maintain the community's operations and supported residents on a daily basis.The department's Labor Day message acknowledged first responders, tradespeople, healthcare workers, educators, and other essential workers.
Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday of September since it was established as a federal holiday by Congress in 1894.
The U.S.Department of Labor described the holiday as a way to celebrate the social and economic accomplishments of American workers.
For emergency service workers, the holiday also honored those who continued their duties while many others were off.
Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, and other public safety workers provided critical services during the holiday.The Department of Labor specifically highlighted emergency workers for their efforts on Labor Day.
The Hawthorne Fire Department functions as a volunteer organization with five fire companies and over 100 members.
In 2024, department personnel responded to more than 600 calls and conducted over 120 drills and training sessions.
The department used Labor Day to acknowledge the work and community support that had been provided throughout the year.
