South Londonderry Firefighters Remembered Fallen Responders

SOUTH LONDONDERRY, VT — September 11 — The South Londonderry Fire Department paid tribute to the lives lost during the September 11, 2001 attacks and recognized the emergency responders who stepped forward to assist during the crisis.

On that day, nearly 3,000 individuals lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93.

At the World Trade Center, 343 New York City firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers were among the casualties.The events triggered the biggest rescue effort in New York City’s history, involving thousands of firefighters and police officers.

For the emergency services community, September 11 served as a powerful reminder of the need for thorough training, reliable communication, and effective coordination during major incidents.

Both responders and survivors later experienced health issues connected to their exposure at the World Trade Center site.

The South Londonderry Fire Department honored the fallen, their families, survivors, and those who continued to deal with the lasting impacts of that day.
