East Dover Firefighters Completed Portable Pump Training

EAST DOVER, VT — August 12 — Firefighters from the East Dover Volunteer Fire Department trained alongside members of the Townshend Volunteer Fire Department, Grafton Fire and Rescue, Jamaica Fire and Rescue, and Rockingham Fire & Rescue on how to operate portable pumps.
The training allowed crews to practice using equipment that helps establish water supplies when hydrants are not available or when a fire scene requires water from an alternative source.
Portable pumps are useful in rural and remote areas and can be used in combination with other water-supply methods.The National Fire Protection Association has recognized portable pumps as one possible option for alternative water-supply operations.
During the training, firefighters practiced setting up the pumps, moving water, and coordinating between different teams.
Working together during the session helped the departments review their equipment and procedures before they might be needed in an actual emergency.
The joint training also gave firefighters from nearby departments a chance to get better acquainted with each other’s equipment and operational practices.
Regular hands-on training helped maintain skills and improve coordination for situations that require a rural water supply.
